BBC Commissioning Editor Diene Petterle joins DSP as Creative Director, Factual

Diene Petterle has been appointed as Creative Director, Factual, for DSP, part of Endemol Shine UK. Diene joins from the BBC where she was a Commissioning Editor in Specialist Factual for 3 years. Reporting to joint Managing Directors Emily Dalton and Donna Clark, this newly created role will be responsible for building the rapidly expanding company’s growing slate and developing new ideas and concepts for both domestic and global audiences.

DSP’s recent hits include factually inspired drama Torvill & Dean for ITV, C5’s highest rated scripted show of 2018, Agatha and the Truth of Murder, factual series Made in Great Britain for BBC Two and The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard for Channel 5. Coming up is Interior Design Masters for BBC Two and Netflix.

During her time at the BBC Diene was responsible for commissions including BAFTA winning Who Do You Think You Are with Danny Dyer (BBC One), ratings hit Fifteen Billion Pound Railway (BBC Two), The Doctor Who Gave Up Drugs (BBC One) and Steve Backshall’s popular expedition series Extreme Mountain Challenge and Down the Mighty River. She also oversaw science documentary strand The Truth About (BBC One) alongside a range of other successful specialist factual launches.

Donna Clark, Joint MD, DSP said of the appointment;

Diene Petterle said;

Before joining the BBC, Diene was a showrunner at Nutopia, where she made the Emmy winning series How We Got to Now (BBC and PBS) and Finding Jesus (CNN). As a director and series producer, she helped craft many first series including Mary Queen of Shops (Channel 4) and Gordon Ramsay’s F Word (Channel 4).
