Rick Stein’s love letter to Cornwall to feature in new BBC Two series

17/08/2020

Shine TV, in conjunction with Rick Stein Productions, has been commissioned by BBC Daytime & Early Peak to produce a 15-part series for BBC Two. Rick Stein’s Cornwall will celebrate the best of Cornwall, presented by the man whose love and passion for the region is no secret, Rick Stein.

Known for its stunning coastlines and picturesque harbour villages, the tourist trail in Cornwall is well-trodden. But in this series Rick will reveal the Cornwall that he knows and loves: a unique part of the British isles with a strong sense of identity and a history rooted in its Celtic past.

With his famous natural inquisitiveness, Rick will share the road less travelled – championing the food, history, music, art and culture of the county many locals argue should be a country in its own right. He’ll explore how the land and sea has shaped the county’s larder and every episode will see him cook a simple dish inspired by his trips.

Through Rick and the locals he meets with, viewers will be given an insight into the rich history and heritage of this proud and beautiful county.

Rick Stein:

“Crossing the Tamar for our holidays to Cornwall from Devon was like going into another country and in the car on our way to Padstow we were driving through an enchanted land, capped for my sister and me by seeing the sea at Trevose Head for the first time. Now, after so many years of living here, it still does feel different. I want to try and explain that difference, to tell you what Cornwall means to me.”

Tanya Shaw, MD and Executive Producer for Shine TV:

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Rick on his next series where he returns to the place he knows and loves best. We hope Shine TV will do him and the series proud.”

Matt Bennett, Executive Producer and Director for Shine TV:

“Rick is one of the great jewels of British television. Loved by all he has a rare, enviable quality which allows him to passionately inspire the young, the old and everyone in between. I feel very honoured to have the opportunity to work with someone I’ve admired ever since he hit our screens and hope that I can continue what my old pal, the late David Pritchard and Rick’s long-time director and friend, started all those years ago.”

Carla-Maria Lawson, BBC Head of Daytime & Early Peak:

“Wherever in the world Rick takes us on his cultural and culinary explorations is a revelation and this time we’re delighted he’s roaming closer to home to give BBC Two viewers a taste of the real Cornwall. Although he made Cornwall his home decades ago, he’s in for a few surprises along the way and viewers can also expect their senses to be piqued as he dives into the county’s rich food heritage.”

Rick Stein’s Cornwall (15×30’) is a Shine TV and Rick Stein Productions (owned and run by Rick and Sarah Stein) production for BBC Two. It was commissioned by Carla-Maria Lawson, BBC Head of Daytime & Early Peak. Rachel Platt, BBC Commissioner Daytime & Early Peak, is the commissioning editor. Matt Bennett and Tanya Shaw are the Executive Producers. Matt Bennett is the director.
